Community Development Organization (CDO) Somalia is registered with the Federal government of Somalia and federal member states as a local non-governmental and non-profit organization. It was established in the years 2012 to respond current need for Somali people in order to sustain, strengthen, protect the Environment, Action for Climate change, Biodiversity and Natural resources, promote human rights, culture, peace building, and good governance initiatives and tackle humanitarian crisis in Somalia.
CDO is managed by independent non-partisan indigenous professionals whom have been experiencing practically & technically on various fields of capacity buildings of humanitarian sectors and community development projects such as humanitarian interventions, Human rights, child protection and capacity building programs.
Community Development Organization (CDO) is aimed to tackle the Environmental crisis including droughts, Climate change and disaster prevention and also develops community basic social Services needs and creates employment opportunities and income generation projects for the Youth, Women, IDPs , marginalized people and poor rural community to reduce the level of poverty and contribute National Development Goals.
CDO Somalia also provides training, consulting and Capacity Buildings to Local Authorities and Civil Society in supporting Good Governance within the Local Authorities and Community initiatives and advocacy protection for all human being to create positive environment which enables societies to actively engage in Social, Political and Economic activities in the country.

Mission
Working togetherness for socio-economic development of the local communities through strengthening their capacity and the implementation of programs such as environmental conservations, economic empowerment, human capacity development and humanitarian protection interventions. Through participatory approach at all levels of community we aim to defeat poverty, ignorance, climate challenges and attain prosperous, peaceful and stable society.
Main Objective.
Our Main aim and focus are to empower the Vulnerable People, Rural Communities and Minority Society in Somalia, Mainly Women, unemployed youth and internally displaced persons to end extreme poverty in rural settings and to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Specific Objectives:
- Advocate, facilitate and encourage the environment conservation and sustainability.
- Promote and ensure the protection of natural resources and wildlife.
- To promote and ensure the ecological balance and save our planet from harmful repercussions and further degradation.
- To ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.
- To increase resilience to climate change effects through capacity building and policy advocacy.
- To promote income and employment generating activities and create vocational skills for the youth, women, IDPs and marginalized people to become self-sufficient and reduce poverty levels.
- Liaise with NGOs and the government institutions/agencies to promote good governance, rule of law, democracy.
- To improve the rights of women focusing on the issues such as female genital mutilations FGM, early marriage, and other forms of discriminations against girls and women.
- To promote Understanding and better relationship among the communities and enable working together for peace and development in the society and creating good atmosphere of stability.
- To promote internal discussions among human rights activists, toward national healing and development.
- To promote a human rights culture and peace in society by working towards awareness raising, mobilization and empowerment of the marginalized segments of the society.
- To document the ongoing violations of human rights in the country and share with the appropriate agencies and institutions.
- To closely monitor human atrocities and abuses of the children in the conflict zone and avoid those problems of Child soldering, Child Exploitative labor, and Child abuse such as (physically, mentally and socially) through community mobilization, parents and care givers.

CDO Governance
CDO Somalia has a defined structure including General Assembly, Board of Directors, and Executive Committee. The structure determines the chain of command and hierarchy of responsibility within CDO.
The Board of directors (B.O.D.) is the planning and policy-making body of the organization and responsible for controlling and approving all activities of the Executive Committee.
The Executive Director is the head of the executive committee that is responsible for the implementation of the programs and daily management activities.
